SUMMARY:YCC Virtual April Seminar-How to Translate Your Academic Studies into an Industry Career
DESCRIPTION:Title:  How to Translate Your Academic Studies into an Industry Career \nSpeaker: Mufeda Zhort \nBio: Mufeda Zhort holds a bachelor’s in chemistry concentration in Pharmaceutical Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University\, NJ. She further pursued her master’s and Ph.D. in chemistry from Seton Hall University\, NJ\, where she specialized in the synthesis\, structure elucidation and alkane oxygenation reactivity of three bioinspired fluoroalkyl iron phthalocyanines. \nShe joined PDI in May 2020 where she worked in a cGMP lab as an analyst\, method validation and transfer\,  and as a data reviewer. She then joined Parexel (formally Execupharm) contracted at Merck in the Discovery Analytical R&D group collaborating with the high throughput experimentation and high throughput purification groups for method development of small and large molecules and was promoted to Principal Scientist 1 after her tenure. \nIn the beginning of this year\, Mufeda started her new role as a Senior Scientist at Merck in the Small Molecule Analytical Research and Development group at West Point\, PA. She is part of the GLP Analyical team developing innovative analytical methodologies for early stage development. \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nMeeting ID: 864 8599 8602\nOne tap mobile\n+16465588656\,\,86485998602# US (New York)\n+16469313860\,\,86485998602# US

SUMMARY:North Jersey NMR Topical Group
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Boyd M. Goodson\, Associate Dean – Research\, College of Agricultural\, Life\, & Physical Sciences at Southern Illinois University \nTitle: Parahydrogen-Based Hyperpolarization Techniques for Spectroscopy and Imaging with New Contrast Agents and ‘Point-of-Care’ MRI Scanners \nAbstract: NMR and MRI enjoy wide applicability but suffer from poor detection sensitivity. For example\, MRI can provide exquisite anatomical images of soft tissues\, but the signal comes almost entirely from high-concentration 1H nuclei in the body’s water and fat molecules. It would be extremely informative to instead obtain MRI signals from various lower-concentration species. We are pursuing methods for generating high\, non-equilibrium nuclear spin polarization—hyperpolarization—that can transiently increase the sensitivity by orders of magnitude. One family of approaches uses parahydrogen to create hyperpolarization. These methods use catalysts to facilitate the hyperpolarization process–either by giving rise to hydrogenation of a substrate’s unsaturated chemical bonds (PHIP)\, or by having the catalyst reversibly bind the substrate and parahydrogen to allow hyperpolarization transfer via scalar couplings (i.e. SABRE). We are studying PHIP and SABRE with homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts\, in aqueous environments\, and in variable magnetic fields to create hyperpolarized agents for NMR and MRI. We are interested in approaches that enable efficient separation of hyperpolarized molecules (both liquids and gases) from PHIP/SABRE catalysts\, and/or allow longer-lasting hyperpolarization—particularly in heteronuclei Finally\, we are working to integrate parahydrogen-based hyperpolarization with a new type of portable low-field (64 mT) “point-of-care” clinical MRI scanner. \n  \nThis will be a virtual meeting hosted via Microsoft Teams. \nJoin now
